Wedding Traditions!
Almost every bride knows the saying.
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue
So today I thought that we would talk about the first on that list.
Something Old.
I think that this phrase is meant to give light to how things last.
Love, Family, Friendship and maybe even passing.
(that last one may seem dark considering this is something that is supposed to be joyous..but stick with me.)
For my wedding I used my mothers veil/hat for our ring ceremony.
This is how I stuck to this tradition. |
But there are all kinds of different ways to personalize this tradition.
I do not claim this photo as my own. |
- The most romantic way that I can think of is if he has his grandmothers wedding ring and he is going to propose to you with that. ( I love when they do that in the movies.)
- Another way is that you borrow something (and knocking out what you need to borrow) like a pearl necklace from your grandmother or great grandmother.
- Another trend that I have seen is that brides are putting pictures of family members that have passed on, on their bouquet. (see. it wasn't too dark).
- Of course you can borrow your mom's dress, sometimes that is a dream a mother has, at least I do for my daughter.

- Add cute baby photo's of you and your husband. This can also be done if you make a photo compilation of all your pictures growing up and you play it for your guest on a dvd to see when they walk in.
- You can also put pictures up of your parents wedding and his parents wedding to pay tribute to them. You can also use any wedding pictures that you have of ancestors.
- Get out of there fast with an old vintage car, or arrive to the church building in one.
- Something old isn't just for you, it's for him too! He could use a vintage hankie for his pocket square. Or if he has old cuff links those would work great too.
- He could also use an old vintage tie with a great design to it to bring color to his tux.
- You could also use some vintage pieces from the YELLOW DOOR boutique. ;) just saying..
What I love so much about vintage weddings is that it fits this tradition in so well. Everything looks so old and timeless and romantic. Another thing that I love is that it incorporates family. I think that this tradition is all about that. Remembering where you come from and now you get to start another life with your partner and start your own family.
I hope that you enjoyed a couple of my ideas and that it will be easy for you to incorporate them into your own wedding.
Thanks for stopping by.
