{Wedding Trend}: Something New

Keeping with tradition.
Today I'm going to talk about the wedding tradition of Something New.
Since last week we discussed something old.
(full post on that here).

The meaning of Something New is, optimism and hope for a bright future for the bride and groom.
It's so cheery because all of this is new for both of them.
New rules, New spouse, New lives.
It seems like everything starts the moment you say "I do".

But how do you personalize this tradition for you and your groom?
It seems like Something New is easy peasy. Most of everything that you get for your wedding day is something new.
But, here are a couple of suggestions that I have come up with, and why I think they need to be on the list.

  • A new dress! Obviously this is something that everyone has thought of and it seems to be the one that brides use for their tradition.
  • NEW LAST NAME! celebrate your name. The best way I can think of doing this is having your last name above your sweetheart table. (the Mr. & Mrs. table) Or have a window pane with your last name and then under it put "est. 2011" or the year that you get married and put it on the guest sign in table.
  • Your promises and vows to each other. If you aren't going to exchange vows you can write him a letter telling him how you feel about him and what you promise/vow to be to him. Have him read it before the ceremony. ( I always like the vows that say that he'll protect you from the silly things like spiders or unclogging the drain).
  • A new look. Before the planning and stressing gets to the both of you, take time to relax with each other. Get a haircut, figure out your make up or get your nails done. After all you are becoming a new person.

  • A lasting bouquet. Your bouquet doesn't have to be synthetic. But, I love that I still have something from my wedding. I made a felt and button bouquet. (I sell these as well). But, I love that it is something that you can keep forever and decorate with.
  • If you have a bridal shower something that I did for my friend was make a practice bouquet for her wedding rehearsal. i had taken a plate poked holes into it and made cute tissue paper flowers. Of course, you can use some of those new gifts that you get from the shower too. ;)
  • A nice charm bracelet is nice. Add everything that you are coming into. Your wedding date, a lucky penny with the year you are getting married, and other wedding charms.
  • I think that jewelry is something else that is common. I like when brides buy something for all of her bridesmaids and her, kinda like a friendship bracelet/necklace.
  • This next idea is kinda something to think about after you are married, but traditions. You celebrate every anniversary on your wedding day, so if you can think about something that you can do that day and then continue to do every anniversary could be a good idea. One example that I have seen on pinterest is of a couple taking a picture in the same spot every anniversary. Or holding a picture of themselves every anniversary of the previous one.

These were just some of the things that I thought of when trying to find something for myself and also thinking of suggestions for all of you. I hope that you enjoyed my list and maybe helped you with yours.

I have also decided to make this a weekly thing. So every Wednesday (beside this one since I'll be out of town tomorrow), I'll be posting a Wedding Trend for everyone to look at.

Thanks for stopping by,
Maryann
